‘Boom’: Pokémon cards help police identify Harford County man charged with using explosives

Officials say Pokémon cards helped police and fire investigators identify a man who is charged with detonating explosive devices in Aberdeen.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal said Jeremiah Burnette, 34, of Aberdeen, has been charged with possessing and using an explosive device.

At around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, Aberdeen police officers responded to South Rogers and James Street in Aberdeen for reports of a loud explosion. Residents in the area had been reporting explosions late at night for about a month, officials said.

Officers discovered a crater near a wood line littered with Pokémon cards. An officer recalled arresting Burnette just a few days earlier with a stack of Pokémon cards on him. Officials said that same day, a citizen called Aberdeen police to report he had argued with Burnette, who ended the conversation, saying, “Boom.” That same person said they found a Pokémon card on his front steps days later.
