Las Cruces man pipe bomb arrest unrelated to 2015 unresolved church bombings

An arrest outside of a church in Las Cruces raised questions about an unsolved case involving two bombings at a church almost eight years ago.

Deputies arrested 40-year-old Nathan Wallace.

A deputy said Wallace had materials that were used to make a pipe bomb.

Wallace was found near East Mesa Baptist Church is located at 6160 Moongate Road.

Stephen Kovach, the interim pastor at East Mesa Baptist Church said the neighborhood brings in a lot of people with all kinds of need.

“The area we’re located is fairly impoverished area as far as people. We run into people that are troubled and we try to help them,” said Kovach.
