Hate crime charges added for suspect in Annapolis shooting that killed 3, injured 3 others
Hate crime charges have been added for the suspect in the mass shooting that killed three people and injured three others in Annapolis.
Charles Robert Smith, 43, of Annapolis was handed the additional charges Friday by a grand jury, in addition to 39 other counts he is facing for the shooting on June 11, that killed Nicholas Mireles, 55, of Odenton, Mario Antonio Mireles Ruiz, 27, of Annapolis, and Christian Marlon Segovia, 25, of Severn.
After 8 p.m. on June 11, officers responded to the 1000 block of Paddington Place after reports that multiple people were shot.
Investigators learned Smith got into an argument with neighbors, who were having a party, over a parking spot. Smith’s mother had contacted the City of Annapolis parking authority to file a complaint prior to the shooting.
