Man accused of bringing pipe bomb to St. Luke’s Hospital will stand trial next week
He was nearly out the door.
All Brian Kunsman needed was a ride home to Philadelphia.
That’s when a nurse allegedly went through his belongings looking for a cell phone to arrange for Kunsman’s ride home from the hospital, according to court records.
Instead of a phone, the nurse allegedly found a pipe bomb that forced the evacuation of the emergency ward at St. Luke’s Hospital in Fountain Hill.
A judge denied Kunsman’s attorney’s motion to suppress the evidence found in his backpack. U.S. District Judge Jeffrey L. Schmehl ruled in May that the nurse didn’t need to obtain a warrant to search Kunsman’s pants and backpack because she’s not a police officer and wasn’t conducting a law enforcement search.
