El Salvador blocks gang members from leaving entire region.
El Salvador has implemented a security fence around the central Cabanas department in an effort to clamp down on gang activity. Over 7,000 soldiers and 1,000 police officers are involved in the operation, which aims to prevent gang members from leaving the area and disrupting their supply chains. President Nayib Bukele stated that Cabanas has become a hub for terrorist cells, and the measures will remain in place until all criminals are apprehended. The country has seen over 70,000 gangsters detained since March 2022, leading to concerns about the mass arrests and the recent allowance of mass trials. El Salvador is considered one of the most dangerous countries in the world.
