Adult and two teens charged in Aberdeen shootings that police say were gang-related.

Sep. 6—The Aberdeen Police Department has charged an adult and two teens in two shootings in August.

On Aug. 8 around 2:30 p.m., residents on East Bel Air Ave. reported hearing gunshots but officers could not locate a suspect or victim, according to police. Later that evening, however, an Aberdeen woman reported that someone had shot at her 21-year-old son while he was driving on East Bel Air Avenue. A bullet struck his vehicle, but he was not injured, police said.

After investigating, detectives identified the shooter as Jahmair Nafeis Jones, 19, of Aberdeen. Jones was charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault and firearms-related charges, the police report said.

The second shooting occurred Aug. 15, around 12:51 p.m. on Polka St. A 51-year-old woman reported to police that her family had been shot at. She had just returned home with her husband and 21-year-old son when two males opened fire on them, according to police.

The front of their home and a vehicle that was parked in the driveway were struck by several bullets. One of the bullets entered an upstairs bedroom where the woman’s daughter and 1-year-old granddaughter were resting. No one was injured, police said.

Aberdeen detectives identified Jones and a 17-year-old male as suspects. Both were charged with three counts of attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault and reckless endangerment, police said.

Jones was taken into custody on Aug. 22 and is being held without bail at the Harford County Detention Center. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 21. Jones’ attorney, Andrew Geraghty, could not be reached for comment.

Jones was sentenced to two years’ probation on Aug. 22 on an unrelated misdemeanor handgun charge from October of last year. The attorney for that case, Katrina Smith, could not be reached for comment.

The 17-year-old suspect was arrested on Aug. 30 and is being charged as an adult; police have not released his name. He is also being held without bail at the Harford County Detention Center.

A 15-year-old male was also charged with accessory after the fact and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder in the Aug. 15 shooting, police said.

According to police, the shootings appeared to be targeted attacks involving gang members and associates. Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Soto or Det. Lightner at 410-272-2121.
