Kuwait arrests three to foil alleged terror plot against Shiite places of worship
Three men have been arrested in Kuwait and referred to prosecutors for allegedly being part of a terrorist group that attempted to attack Shiite places of worship, state news agency Kuna said on Friday.
Security personnel monitored the cell’s movements and arrested three people described as members of a terrorist organisation, Kuna said.
The men are of Arab origin but no further details were given.
Security services were reportedly acting on surveillance and tip-offs.
In 2015, Kuwait, home to several US military bases, suffered its deadliest militant attack in decades when a Saudi citizen killed 26 worshippers and wounded more than 200 at a Shiite mosque.
