Charge sticks against suspect accused of setting off homemade explosive device near downtown Colorado Springs

A man accused of setting off a homemade explosive device near downtown Colorado Springs in January is set to face all charges against him in an upcoming trial.

On Monday, suspect Edward Kiley faced a judge for a preliminary hearing. The only charge eligible for the hearing was first degree arson, one of several charges Kiley was arrested on.

His arrest happened after an explosion was heard all around downtown Colorado Springs, including at the 11 News studio. Colorado Springs police confirmed it happened in the area of Costilla and El Paso streets. Later, a search warrant was executed at Kiley’s home, and according to arrest papers, police found sufficient evidence to link Kiley to the explosion.

That evidence was discussed in relation to the arson charge in court Monday. An El Paso County deputy with the bomb squad addressed the court and discussed evidence in the investigation.
