Randallstown NAACP, Jewish community leaders concerned over robberies, carjackings
Community leaders in the northwest Baltimore and Pikesville areas are concerned about recent crimes against Orthodox Jews.
The Randallstown branch of the NAACP is tracking reports of robberies and carjackings, saying it believes Orthodox Jews and women are being targeted in front of synagogues, homes and businesses.
“Jewish people and women should not feel unsafe and under targeted attack in a U.S. city,” said Ryan Coleman, president of the Randallstown branch of the NAACP.
Baltimore police said robberies are down in the Northwestern District, and they haven’t seen any bias-motivated incidents recently.
Nathan Willner, of Shomrim, a community public safety group, told 11 News cameras are going up in the northwest Baltimore area due to recent incidents.
“It was in the morning, it was a public area, there were plenty of people around. So, the brazenness of this kind of criminal activity is really still shocking,” Willner told 11 News.
