Bomb threat shuts down I-85 in South Carolina, suspect arrested

A man from Illinois was arrested after a bomb threat investigation shut down I-85 in both directions near Greenville, South Carolina, on Thursday.

A South Carolina Transport Police officer conducted a traffic stop on a tractor-trailer around 2:45 p.m. near Exit 44 for a missing license plate, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol. The driver told the officer that there was an explosive device in his vehicle.

All lanes of I-85 were then closed in the area as the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division brought its bomb squad to address the situation. Traffic was blocked off from I-85 from Exit 42 (I-185) and Exit 46 (Augusta Road) in Greenville County.

No explosive devices were found and the interstate was reopened around 7:40 p.m.
