Florida attorney to spend years in prison for attempted bombing in DC

Panama City-based attorney Christopher Rodriquez, 45, will spend more than eight years in federal prison for an attempted bombing near the Chinese Embassy in D.C. in September 2023.

Rodriguez drove from his home in Panama City to Northern Virginia with a rifle and 15 pounds of explosive material, according to court documents.

On his way to D.C., he stopped at several places in Virginia, purchasing a burner cellphone, backpack and nitrile gloves. He used the burner phone to arrange for a taxi to take him a few blocks away from the Chinese Embassy.

Rodriguez placed the backpack filled with explosives next to a streetlight near the back of the Embassy. He then attempted to detonate the explosives by shooting at the backpack with a rifle.
