Man arrested for alleged bomb plot after suspicious Barbourville church visit
Officers report that a Barbourville police investigation into a “suspicious” church attendee revealed alleged plans to bomb a major city.
The Barbourville Police Department received reports from an area church in January that 23-year-old Maurya Bharwad was behaving strangely and “attempting to survey various rooms inside the church. Other churchgoers reported that Bharwad appeared to be nervous and fidgeting.
On Jan. 31, police were contacted by Blue-Line Tactical, a Barbourville firearms retailer following an exchange between the employees and Bharwad.
An affidavit explains that he’d entered the store just before closing inquiring about an American-made gun with the capability of holding a high-capacity magazine. After completing the firearm transaction record form the licensee submitted the information for a background check but it was flagged for delay.
