Suspicious package in downtown Halifax was ‘hoax improvised explosive device,’ police say
Halifax police have released an image of a man they say is a suspect related to the “hoax improvised explosive device” found outside Halifax City Hall on Wednesday morning.
Halifax Regional Police officers determined the package in Grand Parade was not a threat to the public, said police spokesperson Const. Martin Cromwell.
“However, it was designed to come across as threatening,” he said.
Police responded at around 9:50 a.m. AT to a phone call reporting the suspicious package. The streets surrounding Grand Parade were closed to vehicles and pedestrians for just over an hour.
In a news release Wednesday afternoon, police appealed to the public for help identifying the suspect, who they said was caught on camera.
