Police: Indiana woman made bombs out of Monster Energy cans, wanted to blow up a high school
A southern Indiana woman faces a felony charge after police say she made various homemade explosives, including bombs made with Monster Energy cans.
Ahnna I. Tipton, 19, faces a possession of a destructive device charge after being arrested Thursday in Evansville. The charge stems from alleged explosive devices police found while Tipton was at the hospital.
The Evansville Police Department says an officer transported Tipton to St. Vincent Hospital for an evaluation. During the intake process, a hospital police officer reportedly found a “suspicious item” inside Tipton’s backpack.
Described as a pill bottle wrapped in duct tape, the item appeared to have a matchstick protruding from the lid and a piece of cloth attached.
Another device was soon discovered inside the backpack: an aluminum pipe with a strong chemical odor sealed at both ends by duct tape.
EPD’s Bomb Squad was called to the scene, recovered the items and interviewed Tipton. The suspect reportedly admitted to making the items, which were later confirmed to be “improvised incendiary devices.”
