FBI and local authorities stop potential synagogue attacks in Alabama

Authorities say they have prevented potential acts of violence targeting synagogues across the state and surrounding areas.

The FBI, working with the 1st Judicial Circuit District Attorney and the Special Response Team (SRT), acted on credible threats and identified a suspect, Jeremy Wayne Shoemaker, in Needham, Alabama. A search warrant executed at the suspect’s residence led to the arrest of the individual and the seizure of weapons, a suitcase full of ammunition, body armor, and other items connected to the planned attacks. Investigators say the suspect may have intended not to be taken alive and could have targeted public figures.

The investigation is ongoing and involves multiple federal agencies. Federal charges are expected, while local charges include resisting arrest and violations for certain persons forbidden.
