Amherst Co. teacher allegedly kept Molotov cocktail under desk ‘in case someone broke in’

A teacher at Amherst County High School has been arrested after a Molotov cocktail was allegedly found under his desk Thursday.

Ronald McCafferty, the school’s automotive teacher, is currently in jail following the discovery.

According to arrest warrants, McCafferty told a student about the Molotov cocktail and that it was covered up at the bottom of his desk. McCafferty reportedly told the student it was intended for use “in case someone broke in.”

A deputy did a walk-through of the classroom and said he found a jar containing a yellow liquid. The jar had a rag taped to it, and the lid on it was labeled “gasoline.” A field test determined the substance was flammable.
