Las Vegas police: Improvised explosive detonated outside restaurant near Strip
Police are investigating a small explosion that occurred after someone detonated an improvised explosive device near Piero’s Italian Cuisine, a restaurant about half a mile from Las Vegas Boulevard.
According to an update from Sheriff Kevin McMahill, two men wearing all black approached the front of the restaurant around 2:19 a.m. One of the men was on a scooter.
The men left an improvised explosive device that was then ignited, and after a few minutes of burning, it detonated. As of a news conference at 1:30 p.m., the sheriff said the two men were not in custody.
McMahill said the building was unoccupied and there were no reports of the explosion until a cleaning crew arrived at the restaurant around 10:30 a.m.
