Mother of Wilson County student sues after son arrested for warning peers of alleged school shooting plot

The parent of a Wilson County student is suing after she said her son was taken into custody for reposting a warning about an alleged school shooting plot.

The lawsuit alleges the student was detained on Sept. 19, 2024, after he shared a screenshot of a message warning of a school shooting plot on his Snapchat. The message originated from Picayune, Mississippi, according to the complaint.

After reposting the screenshot with the caption, “stay safe y’all,” other students at Mt. Juliet High School reportedly began to circulate the message, which led to the student being escorted to the principal’s office by school resource officers.
