Teen arrested after threats cause multiple Minnesota schools to close
Multiple south metro high schools — closed Tuesday because of online threats — will be back open Wednesday.
Both the Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan District 196 and Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District 191 made the announcements Tuesday afternoon after police gave updates saying there was no longer a threat to the public.
The Apple Valley Police Department arrested a 16-year-old male they believe to be responsible for the threats towards the high schools. The execution of a search warrant in Eagan led to his arrest.
Police said, “No weapons were located during the course of the search warrant. He has been taken into custody and will be transported to the Dakota County Juvenile Detention Center. Formal charges will be sought through the Dakota County Attorney’s Office.”
Apple Valley Police said they were notified around 6:45 p.m. on Monday regarding threatening messages posted on social media referencing potential harm directed at multiple high schools in District 196.
