Rocky Mount High student arrested after posting threats on social media

The Rocky Mount Police Department said they arrested a high school student for a school shooting threat posted on social media.

Police say they were notified by Nash County Public School Officials notified the Rocky Mount Police Department at approximately 7 a.m. on Jan. 28 of threats posted to social media regarding a potential school shooting at Rocky Mount High School. The notification prompted an immediate investigation

Officials said detectives identified a 16-year-old female student from Rocky Mount High School as the source of the threat. The student was arrested the same day and charged with Communicating a Threat of Mass Violence on Educational Property, a felony charge. The student was transported to Juvenile Services.
