Suspect identified in stolen ambulance chase with patient still inside

A naked suspect who stole an ambulance with a patient inside was arrested after a multiagency chase that ended in a field west of Pittsville Tuesday night.

The suspect has been identified as Benajamin Feltz.

The Wisconsin Rapids Fire Department was responding to a call at 5:30 p.m. The ambulance was parked in the 1400 block of 22nd Avenue South in the city while crews provided care to a patient.

Feltz, who authorities later learned had been evading law enforcement and was doing push-ups while naked in public, got into the ambulance driver’s seat. Two paramedics were in the patient compartment with the patient at the time.

“You hear that come over the radio, hey, that someone has stolen an ambulance,” said Wisconsin Rapids Police Chief Daniel Hostens. “And your first thought is, did they just say someone stole an ambulance? How does that happen?”
