Woman found with Molotov cocktails in her backpack near playground fire, North Texas police say
North Texas police arrested a woman Saturday after reportedly finding her near a fire with several Molotov cocktails in her backpack, officials said.
According to the Commerce Police Department, they and the Commerce Fire Department had been investigating several fires that happened over the last couple days.
Overnight on Feb. 21, an officer wrote in his arrest affidavit that he had seen at fire at the playground area of Eddie Moore Park, 602 E. Sterling Hart Drive. The officer said he also saw a woman dressed in all black with a clear backpack walking away from the area.
The woman, Jamia Howell, was detained, police said. According to the affidavit, the officer went through the backpack, where he found eight glass Dos XX beer bottles, a plastic bottle and a plastic jug containing a clear liquid that reportedly smelled like gasoline.
