Multiple Explosive Devices Found At Fort Washington Park, FBI And ATF Investigating

Multiple explosive devices discovered at Fort Washington Park prompted an evacuation and ongoing investigation involving several local and federal agencies.

Technicians with the Prince George’s County Fire Department Bomb Squad responded to the park on Sunday, March 22, 2026, after several explosive devices were located. U.S. Park Police evacuated visitors and closed the park as a precaution.

Officials said five devices were rendered safe before operations were suspended after sunset.

Bomb squad personnel returned to the park on the morning of March 23, where additional explosive devices were discovered. Crews remain on scene working to safely neutralize the remaining devices.

A joint investigation is underway involving the Prince George’s County Fire Marshal’s Office, the Maryland State Fire Marshal, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the FBI, and the U.S. Park Police.
