Authorities charged five teenagers and three adults in what Baltimore they said is a violent crime ring.

The Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office on Thursday announced charges against the defendants include first-degree murder, carjacking, robbery with a deadly weapon, among other charges.

Detectives identified 22 additional carjackings, robberies or related incidents from April 23 through May 24 involving the same group of assailants, the charging documents state.

“These are not allegations of youthful misjudgment or isolated misconduct. These are egregious criminal acts that must be punished severely,” Baltimore Pollice Commissioner Rich Worley said.

“We have to be real. It is not the police department, it’s not the mayor’s office, it’s not the state’s attorney’s office’s job to watch people’s teens at 3 o’clock in the morning. We also have to build back the level of accountability at home,” Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott said. “We’re going to keep uplifting the vast majority who are doing the right thing to represent our city, but, again, this has to start at home. We do not want to be arresting the children, but we will if they decide to allow this activity to continue.”
