5 dead, 2 injured in ‘targeted’ family shooting in East St. Louis
Seven members of one family were shot Sunday in East St. Louis, and five of them died from their injuries, police said.
Illinois State Police Director Brenden Kelly said there were multiple shooting scenes, including 39th and Summit streets, where one person was killed; the Samuel Gompers Homes in the 400 block of North 6th Street, where three people were killed; and Jones Park in the 2500 block of Argonne Drive, where one person was killed and two were injured.
Kelly identified the dead as Patricia A. May, 74; Cherie L. May, 49; Devin D. May, 24; Shania W. Thompson, 25; and Quentin L. Thompson, 21. The names or ages of the two injured family members were not released. Kelly said both were in serious condition at a St. Louis hospital.
Kelly said two suspects, ages 15 and 16, were taken into custody inside Frank Holten State Park after officers performed a PIT maneuver on a car one of the suspects was driving. The teenagers were related to the family members killed or injured, though the exact relationship was unclear.
