Okeechobee [FL] boy tracked down after alleged shooting threats to North Carolina school

A boy from Okeechobee was located by authorities Friday after he allegedly made threatening calls to a North Carolina school, saying he’d be “shooting the school up.”

Deputies with the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office say Mitchell County Middle/Elementary School received six calls around 12:30 p.m. Friday that began with vulgar comments before escalating to threats against the school.

School resource officers, sheriff’s investigators, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, and the FBI launched an investigation using the phone number associated with the calls.

Authorities said the boy, who has not been identified, confessed to making the calls. Investigators also say they are not aware of any connection between the boy and the sparsely populated mountainous region of North Carolina.
