Organized Crime Suspect Is Back in Ireland After Extradition From U.A.E.
A man long sought by the authorities in Ireland on suspicion of links to organized crime appeared in a Dublin criminal court on Sunday following his extradition from the United Arab Emirates.
The defendant, Daniel Kinahan, has been accused of running a crime ring known as the Kinahan Cartel, which was founded by his father, Christy Kinahan, a convicted drug trafficker.
Mr. Kinahan, 49, was at one time best known outside Ireland for his deep influence in boxing. In 2012, he founded MTK Global, a boxing and mixed martial arts company that represented top British boxers.
About a decade later, the United States put out a reward of $5 million for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Mr. Kinahan, his father and his brother Christy Jr. The United States also announced financial sanctions against the Kinahans, other members of their group and a number of connected businesses.
