Affidavit: North Side man accused of using AI program to plan mass shooting at elementary school

San Antonio police arrested a North Side man after he allegedly used artificial intelligence to plan a shooting at a North East ISD elementary school.

Records show Nathaniel Michael Carrasco, 22, was arrested Aug. 29 and charged with making a terroristic threat, which is considered a third-degree felony. A judge set his bond at $250,000.

According to Carrasco’s arrest warrant, he is accused of using Anthropic AI — an artificial intelligence program — to make “multiple queries threatening to kill school-age kids from Serna Elementary School.”

Investigators said Carrasco allegedly typed several threatening prompts into the AI program Aug. 11.

While Carrasco is accused of using the program to plan the attack on that date, police said the threats were not known to the FBI, SAPD or the Southwest Texas Fusion Center until Aug. 28.
