Sauk County jury convicts man on 19 terrorist threat counts for months of violent Facebook posts
A Sauk County jury convicted a Baraboo man of 19 counts of making terrorist threats after he posted on Facebook that he would shoot local officials and bomb a school.
Kerry E. Martin, 66, was found guilty Thursday before Circuit Court Judge Andrew Voigt of Columbia County, according to Sauk County District Attorney Michael X. Albrecht. The entire Sauk County bench recused itself, leading to Voigt’s special assignment.
Each count is a Class I felony punishable by up to three years and six months in prison. Martin faces more than 66 years across all counts.
Over three months in early 2025, Martin used a public Facebook page to threaten Baraboo and Sauk County officials. In an April 29, 2025 post, he wrote, “I’m going to start shooting these m————,” according to the criminal complaint.
He said he intended to buy an AR-15 and claimed the city was pushing him toward a “murder spree.” Martin aimed the posts at a Baraboo judge, the police chief and officers, and the city’s mayor, and tagged a public police-scanner page so the threats would be seen.
