Docs: Johnson City man accused of enticing 13-year-old online as part of nihilist ‘764’ group
A Johnson City man, who authorities claim belonged to a “nihilistic violent extremist” network, faces federal child exploitation charges for allegedly using the online video platform Roblox to entice a 13-year-old girl to send him pictures and videos of her harming herself and engaging in sexually explicit acts.
Cayden Newberry is charged with one count each of knowingly enticing a minor into sexual activity to produce visual depictions; knowingly enticing a minor into engaging in sexual activity using a facility of interstate commerce; and knowingly receiving child sexual abuse material using a facility of interstate commerce. The minimum sentences on those charges are 15 years on the first, 10 years on the second and 5 years on the third.
The charges stem from an investigation that began in mid-September in New Jersey, where the alleged victim lives, following a complaint by one of her parents to local police.
A criminal complaint filed Nov. 19 alleges that Newberry, 19, was affiliated with the “764 group.” Gretchen Roberts, the FBI agent who worked the case, wrote that the “decentralized network of nihilistic violent extremists” has a general goal of “destroying civilized societies” with tactics that include exploiting vulnerable populations, including underage children.
