FBI investigates social media threat targeting 14 Texas schools, including three in Austin

The FBI is investigating a social media threat targeting 14 schools across Texas, including three Austin Independent School District elementary campuses, district officials said Tuesday.

The local FBI office notified Austin ISD Police about the threat, which included Andrews, Baranoff and Barrington elementary schools, according to letters sent to families at the affected campuses.

The social media post includes a photo of a masked individual with firearms but does not specify a date or time for the threat, officials said.

Austin ISD will have an increased police presence at the three campuses during the investigation to ensure student and staff safety. Austin ISD Police is in direct communication with the FBI to obtain additional information and assist as needed.
