Gunman opens fire on Cambridge’s Memorial Drive, 2 drivers critically hurt

A gunman opened fire on vehicles on Memorial Drive in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on Monday afternoon, leaving two drivers critically injured before being wounded and taken into custody himself, officials said.

The shooting sparked a massive police investigation along Memorial Drive, with police cruisers blocking traffic and damaged vehicles left in the road, and elsewhere.

Cambridge police shared a statement saying there was no danger to the public after a 911 call for gunfire on Memorial Drive near River Street.

Video shared with NBC10 Boston shows what appears to be a man exchanging gunfire on Memorial Drive, while witnesses described seeing someone shooting at cars on the major Cambridge thoroughfare.

The gunman was identified as Tyler Brown. A civilian helped rush to end the shooting, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said in an update Monday evening.
