Ridgeland man faces attempted homicide charge after making alleged threats towards school

A Ridgeland man faces attempted homicide charge, among others, after making alleged threats towards Prairie Farm School.

According to a criminal complaint, 36-year-old Dustin Rudd is charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide, attempting to take hostages, possession of a firearm on grounds of a school and making terrorist threats.

The criminal complaint states that on May 15 around 11 a.m., the Barron County Sheriff’s Office was advised that a person carrying a rifle and an American flag was walking northbound on County Rd. F.

The previous day, the Sheriff’s Office had received information from the Dunn County Sheriff’s Office, advising of an officer safety alert regarding Rudd. He made many anti-government comments and believed the CIA was spying on him and his family. Rudd had also posted photographs of numerous firearms on his Facebook page.

Rudd streamed the entire incident on YouTube. Throughout the video, Rudd stated that his children were eaten and that he was going to the Prairie Farm School to shoot the kids. Rudd stated all children needed to die. He stated that someone was forcing his hand and he had to do what he had to do. He stated after he shot as many kids as he could, he was going to hold other people hostage until law enforcement arrived. He stated he was going to shoot himself and go out in a blaze of glory in a very patriotic way.
