Trinitarios gang member convicted for role in 2019 murder.
NEW YORK, NY – William Jones, also known on the street as “Principe,” was found guilty on all charges related to the 2019 murder of Frederick Delacruz.
The verdict was delivered after an eight-day jury trial overseen by U.S. District Judge Edgardo Ramos. Jones was convicted of racketeering conspiracy, murder in aid of racketeering, and various firearms offenses.
Damian Williams, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, stated, “William Jones executed Frederick Delacruz in cold blood because Delacruz had the courage to do the honorable thing and cooperate with law enforcement. We hope today’s verdict will bring some peace to the victim’s family and sends the message that we will not rest until justice is done.”
Evidence presented at the trial revealed that Jones was a high-ranking member of the Trinitarios gang, an organization known for its involvement in crimes such as murder, drug trafficking, and witness tampering.
Jones and his accomplices had lured Delacruz from the Bronx to Suffolk County, where he was subsequently shot and killed. Delacruz had been acting as a confidential informant for law enforcement at the time of his murder.
ones, 45, faces a range of severe penalties, including a mandatory minimum sentence of life imprisonment for the charge of murder in aid of racketeering. Other charges also carry a maximum penalty of life in prison. It should be noted that these penalties are subject to the judge’s final determination during sentencing.
