ATF and FBI assisting Columbus, OH fire in investigation into suspected pipe bomb explosion

A suspected pipe bomb exploded and set a parked pickup truck on fire Tuesday afternoon on Columbus’ South Side.

No one was injured in the explosion and fire reported at 1:23 p.m. Tuesday behind a home on the 2300 block of South 6th Street, Columbus police said. The pickup was believed to be parked and unoccupied at the time.

Columbus Division of Fire Battalion Chief Jeff Geitter confirmed Tuesday night three men who had been detained for questioning at a nearby house had been released and have not been charged.
