Sheriff: Harford County student arrested after school threat made on Snapchat
The Harford County Sheriff’s Office is warning of an increase in threats made against schools, including one that resulted in an arrest overnight.
The sheriff’s office said deputies became aware early Wednesday morning of a claim circulating on Snapchat about “shooting up the school, this is a threat.”
At 2:20 a.m., deputies knocked on doors amid a fast-moving investigation that ultimately resulted in the identification and arrest of a high school student suspected of making the claim.
The sheriff’s office said state law precludes them from revealing the school or name of the student charged.
Last week alone, Harford County deputies investigated 11 threats of violence against a school, the sheriff’s office said. In the last 13 hours, as of Wednesday afternoon, the sheriff’s office said it had investigated three threats of violence against schools.
