Tennessee student arrested for allegedly making AI-generated bomb threats
A Lebanon student was arrested Tuesday for being suspected of creating AI-generated bomb-threat voicemails that prompted a school evacuation back in early September.
On the morning of September 12, two bomb threat voicemails were reported to Wilson County Sheriff’s Office that specifically threatened to harm Barry Tatum Academy (BTA). Shortly after, BTA students and staff evacuated the campus as officers and K-9 units swept the school, no threats were found.
An investigation determined that the voicemails appeared to be AI-generated and authorities were able to trace them back to a current BTA student.
