Police: York County man charged after making threats in churches during services

A man remains in the Adams County Prison after police say he threatened churchgoers at four churches in York and Adams counties on Sunday.

According to police, 53-year-old Odell Potter, of Glenville, was holding a hammer over his head at one church in Conewago Township, Adams County.

Police also said he entered three other churches, where he allegedly made threats and used vulgar language.

At the Glen Rock Church of Christ, Pastor Jeffrey Dillinger said Potter entered the building as he began preaching. He said Potter was not wearing a shirt and had no shoes or socks.

“The first thing I did look for: Is there a weapon? That instantly came to my mind,” Dillinger said.

The pastor said a church member spotted a hammer in what was believed to be Potter’s car.
