Police: 61-year-old man arrested in connection with mailbox fires in Baltimore
A 61-year-old man has been arrested in connection to several fires across central Baltimore back in November.
According to police, Benard Stepney, 61, of Baltimore, was arrested on Dec. 3 and is facing charges of second-degree arson, first-degree malicious burning and other fire-related charges.
Police said that during an investigation, they learned through physical evidence and surveillance footage that Stepney allegedly set a fire at a mailbox in the 300 block of West Mulberry Street, another mailbox at the 400 block of Cathedral Street, the 500 block of East Baltimore Street, and the 400 block of East Fayette Street.
Baltimore authorities are investigating another mailbox fire Tuesday.
City fire officials released a statement Tuesday morning saying firefighters were called around 11 a.m. to Baltimore and South streets, where there was light smoke emanating from a mailbox fire.
