ISP: Terre Haute man arrested for social media threats against state lawmaker
A Terre Haute man was arrested on Monday after he reportedly made threatening statements on social media against an Indiana State Representative.
According to a news release from the Indiana State Police, 55-year-old Robert Bennett has been charged with four counts of intimidation, each a Level 6 felony.
Lucas, a Republican state representative from Seymour, previously pleaded guilty to operating a vehicle while intoxicated in 2023. Lucas also came under fire in January 2024 when a video showed that he reportedly flashed a holstered firearm at high school students at the Indiana Statehouse.
The release claims that Bennett made harassing and threatening statements on Meta platforms, as well as voicemails, toward Indiana State Rep. Jim Lucas. Detectives with the Indiana State Police opened a case after Indiana Capitol Police contacted them about the alleged threats.
