Man arrested for arson after allegedly setting fire to SE Austin bridge
A 35-year-old man has been arrested on arson charges after a fire caused an estimated $20,000 in damages to a bridge in southeast Austin last week.
According to an arrest affidavit, firefighters responded to a reported trash fire under a bridge at 6406 S. Pleasant Valley Road around 8:56 a.m. on Oct. 24.
Fire investigators determined the fire was intentionally set, with the intent of causing damage to the bridge.
During questioning, the suspect, Mario Francisco Vasquez Lopez, admitted to starting the fire.
