Man charged with attempted murder after detonating explosive devices, deputies say

A man is facing attempted murder charges after he allegedly detonated explosive devices while firefighters were responding to a reported vehicle fire Saturday morning, according to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.

Crews with the Foresthill Fire Protection District arrived at the scene around 11:23 a.m. after receiving reports of a vehicle fire in front of a home. No fire was found, but firefighters encountered a man who exited the house and detonated what deputies now identify as “improvised explosive devices” on two separate occasions.

He told firefighters he had another explosive device inside the house, prompting crews to retreat and call law enforcement, deputies said.

When Placer County deputies arrived, they made repeated announcements to get the man to exit the home. He eventually came out and was detained.
