Luigi Mangione, man charged with murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO, has ties to Maryland

Luigi Mangione, 26, has been charged with murder in connection with the death of former UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, according to The Associated Press and NBC News, which both cited an online court docket.

A man questioned by authorities in connection with the killing of UnitedHealthcare’s CEO has ties to Maryland, the New York Police Department announced Monday afternoon.

NYPD identified the man as Luigi Mangione, a 26-year-old who was born and raised in Maryland.

Mangione is in custody in Altoona, Pennsylvania, where police said he had a gun thought to be similar to the one used in the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, according to the NYPD.

Citing a law enforcement official, The Associated Press reported that along with the gun, authorities also found a silencer, fake IDs and writings that appeared to be critical of the health insurance industry, according to the law enforcement official.
