Report: Texas man planned to attack church with improvised explosive devices, multiple guns

A Texas man who was arrested last week after officers found explosive devices and guns in his van allegedly told them he had planned to attack a local church, according to an incident report obtained by WFAA.

The incident report filed by the Fort Worth Fire Department said White Settlement police believed they had discovered explosive devices inside a van during a traffic stop, which prompted the FWFD Bomb Squad to respond. The bomb squad determined that three of eight devices found in the van were “indeed classified as destructive devices,” according to the report.

Police had initially pulled over the “suspicious van” in the 9200 block of Jason Lane at about 5:29 a.m. on Nov. 26, WFAA previously reported. White Settlement police said its officers found the man in the driver’s seat of the van had a handgun in his lap. While talking with the man, police determined the man was having mental health issues. During their discussion, officers were eventually able to remove the man from the van when he didn’t have the gun in his possession, officials said.
