Baltimore County officer, alleged gunman shot in precinct parking lot near UMBC, police say
A Baltimore County officer and an alleged gunman were injured in a shootout Thursday afternoon in the Catonsville precinct parking lot during a shift change, according to police.
Police said the officer, who has been with the department for about six years, was at the end of his shift when he was shot.
Baltimore County Police Chief Robert McCullough said officers in the parking lot exchanged gunfire with the shooter, who was struck.
The Baltimore County officer, who has not been identified, was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma for surgery, and he is in serious condition, according to Dr. Thomas Scalea, who performed the procedure. Scalea also said the officer is under close observation.
“We keep (the officer) and his family in our prayers,” McCullough said. “We also keep members of the Baltimore County Police Department in our prayers.”
