Man arrested after setting off pipe bombs across the Tri-State: Feds
A man is facing federal charges after authorities say he detonated three explosive devices across southwest Ohio.
Robert Gilb, 50, of Green Township, was arrested Tuesday by the FBI and police, according to Acting United States Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio Kelly Norris.
Gilb is accused of detonating improvised explosive devices (IED) in Hamilton and Butler County in March and April, Norris explained.
On April 12, Norris said the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office responded to Miami Township, where a loud explosion was reported.
The sheriff’s officers found “what appeared to be a blast crater and components of an improvised explosive device (IED),” Norris said.
As the investigation, Norris said two late-March incidents with similar characteristics were discovered in Butler County.
“Witnesses allegedly saw Gilb in his white BMW near the site of at least one of the devices when it exploded,” Norris explained.
