Maine man arrested at Pittston home after explosives found during Newcastle traffic stop
A Maine man has been taken into custody in connection with the discovery of explosives during a traffic stop.
Nicholas Presby, 43, of Augusta, was arrested without incident Wednesday at a Pittston home, two days after Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies found explosive devices in a vehicle he was traveling in as a passenger.
The Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office said deputies stopped the vehicle shortly after midnight Monday on Main Street in Newcastle in response to a traffic violation.
The driver of the vehicle, whose identity has not been shared by authorities, was arrested at the scene on an outstanding warrant and transported to the Lincoln County Jail.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputies found material that appeared to resemble an explosive device during a subsequent search of the vehicle. The Maine State Police Bomb Squad and members of the State Fire Marshal’s Office were called to the scene to examine that device, which was secured and removed for further evaluation, including a laboratory analysis.
