Man charged with emailing death threats to Oakland Mayor in alleged hate crime
A 45-year-old man accused of emailing racist death threats to Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee was charged with a felony after her staff discovered the emails in her inbox.
David Pokorny, 45, of El Cerrito, was charged last week with threatening a public official. He also faces hate crime allegations. He pleaded not guilty, according to Alameda County Superior Court records.
The first email, sent Sept. 7, used racial slurs to refer to Black Oakland residents, police said in court records. The sender threatened to kill them, as well as government officials, including Lee, police officers and judges.
