Explosives found, traffic stop ends in arrest after bomb squad call for devices

An unidentified person is facing a number of charges after authorities found them driving recklessly with explosive devices inside their vehicle.

Lakeside Police Department took the person into custody on Wednesday night, July 15, following what officials consider a dangerous series of events that began with a traffic violation and ended with a bomb squad investigation.

Officers initially saw a white sedan travelling westbound on a service road with its headlights off. As they moved in to perform a traffic stop, officers observed the sedan moving at speeds between 90-100 mph.

Officials said the situation escalated once the vehicle began driving on the wrong side of the road, still with no headlights on.

Once officers turned on their emergency lights, the vehicle began to swerve across the road before veering onto the shoulder and striking a TxDOT “Do Not Enter” sign.

Once the vehicle came to a stop in the 11000 block of Jacksboro Highway westbound service road, officers began their investigation. It was discovered that there were several suspicious, heavily modified pyrotechnic devices, wrapped in black electrical tape, and featured exposed fuses and pull rings.
