2 killed, 3 hospitalized in Pawtucket ice rink shooting; suspect also dead

Two victims and the suspect are dead while three others are hospitalized with gunshot wounds after a shooting Monday afternoon during a hockey game at Lynch Arena in Pawtucket, authorities said.

The arena is an indoor ice skating rink on Andrew D. Ferland Way. A 2 p.m. game had been scheduled pitting the Coventry-Johnston co-op team against the four institutions that are part of the BVS team: St. Raphael Academy, Providence Country Day School, and the public school districts of North Providence and North Smithfield.

Pawtucket Police Chief Tina Goncalves said at least one of those killed was a woman, while the suspect was male, and the incident appeared to be “a family dispute.” The second victim killed died at the hospital. Mayor Don Grebien called the shooting “tragic” but “an isolated incident.”
